Shield
The pales emulate a tank track; the colors green and yellow, traditionally associated with Armor, indicate the Special Troops Battalion's affiliation. The following images illustrate the branches encompassed within the Special Troops Battalion - the double ward key suggests the security and the Military Intelligence function, the lightning bolt refers to the Signal capabilities, and the red masoned base signifies the Engineer responsibilities.
Crest
The triangular gad, the heraldic symbol for iron, alludes to 2d Brigade Combat Team being identified as the Iron Brigade. The three mortar shells signify the unit's campaign participation during World War II, Southwest Asia and the Global War on Terrorism. The five gold bars denote the decorations awarded. The stylized arrow suggests military readiness.
The coat of arms was approved effective 16 September 2010.
